Sustainability concept
What does sustainability look like in the future? What are our goals and how do we achieve them? The Studentenwerk SH asked itself these questions in a series of workshops from November 2022 to February 2023. The result of the workshops is a sustainability concept that not only lists the current sustainability measures, but also deals in particular with the measures for the future. The concept comprises six fields of action for which the company has defined concrete goals and designed measures.

Climate protection & adaptation
Goal: The Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein sees itself as a pioneer in climate protection and aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2035, ahead of state and federal targets.
Measures:
- Obtain external support to implement the environmental management system.
- Develop and implementCO2 reduction strategies to achieve climate neutrality by 2035.
- Create a "sustainability management" position.
Energy and resource
efficiency
Goal: By 2030, the energy & resource consumption of the Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein has been significantly reduced. The Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein uses energy and available resources consciously.
Measures:
- From 2023, users will be sensitised to conscious energy use with the help of a communication concept.
- Energy controlling to identify and implement potential savings will be introduced by the end of 2023.
- Controlling of water, waste, etc. as part of environmental management.
Sustainable purchasing
Goal: The Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein uses socially and ecologically procured and produced products and services wherever possible. We will achieve this goal by 2030 and beyond.
Measures:
- Product groups & requirement profiles for procurement are defined.
- Suitable suppliers for all product groups are identified.
Diversity & Discrimination - Promotion
Goal: The Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein creates a non-discriminatory and diverse space for all people. In this space, the Studentenwerk actively promotes economic security and the social & cultural needs of students.
Measures:
- A working group with representatives from all departments develop the company's understanding of diversity & discrimination with external support.
- The Studentenwerk SH examines, revises and creates corresponding guidelines and documents and actively communicates these internally and externally. Existing concepts are implemented and accents are set.
- All departments of the Studentenwerk SH work out the respective professional and practical reference to the corporate understanding of diversity & discrimination within the department, implement it in their departmental strategy and adapt the practical work if necessary.
Digitalisation
Goal: The Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein will work digitally wherever possible and necessary by 2030. It reacts sensitively & according to need with a positive attitude to the development of the digital market. The Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein continues to expand the necessary personnel and material infrastructure.
Measures:
- The necessary hardware and software will be purchased and installed in the facilities, WLAN will be expanded accordingly in the facilities.
- Active recruiting on the labour market to attract IT specialists from 2023.
- The Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein actively pursues the prospective employment of trainees, invests in the IT qualification of trainees and develops an appropriate concept for this.
Training and further education
Goal: The Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein is a learning organisation at all levels (human and structural) and offers dynamic formats of mutual knowledge transfer.
Measures:
- Training offers and knowledge transfer for topics of the sustainability concept.
