Overview of student union fees
The semester contribution includes the student union fee, the AStA fee including the semester ticket and, if applicable, the registration fee. We take over the acceptance of the semester contribution for the universities and the AStA, whereby we retain the Studentenwerk contribution and transfer the AStA contribution to the ASten and the fees of the universities to the respective university.
If you are enrolled in a study program at a university supervised by the Studentenwerk SH, you must pay a contribution of 79 euros per semester to the Studentenwerk SH. For this purpose, only full-time studies in degree programs that are completed with a university or state examination and postgraduate studies that are conducted for research purposes or for job-related specialization after completion of such a degree program are considered studies.
The obligation to pay contributions also extends to students on leave of absence.
From the winter semester 2024/2025, the fee will be 79 euros per semester.
The fee is due upon enrollment or re-registration and is paid to the Studentenwerk SH.
When registering or re-registering at your respective university, you must prove that you have paid the Studentenwerk fee for the respective semester for which you are registering or re-registering. The universities responsible for enrollment and re-registration are responsible for checking this.
No, the contribution cannot be waived, paid in installments, reduced or deferred.
Each university has its own contribution account. You can find out which semester fee, including the student union fee, you have to pay for your university on the website of your university.

Yes, this is a solidarity contribution, in particular to be able to finance the free services of the Studentenwerk.
An exemption is possible in the following cases:
- You have been granted leave of absence for the semester.
- You can credibly demonstrate that it is not possible to use the services of the Studentenwerk, not even partially.
You can apply to the Studentenwerk for exemption from contributions before the start of the semester.

A refund of the student union fee is possible in the following cases:
- In case of enrollment revocation before the beginning of the semester for which the contribution was made.
- In case of de-registration before the beginning of the semester for which the fee was paid.
You can apply for a refund at the Studentenwerk.

Please complete the exemption/refund application in full and attach the specified documentation.
The following documents must be enclosed:
- Proof of payment (e.g. copy of bank statement) AND
- Copy of the provisional (CAU Kiel only) or final exmatriculation certificate OR
- Proper certificate of exmatriculation OR
- Copy of the new enrollment certificate in case of change of university OR
- Proof from the university of non-acceptance of the study place/cancellation confirmation OR
- Proof from the university of a leave of absence OR
- credible evidence that it is impossible for you to claim the benefits according to § 4, paragraph 2 of the contribution statutes of the Studentenwerk SH.
Please note that an application for de-registration is not sufficient.
A Student Services Fee Waiver must be requested prior to the start of the semester for which the waiver is requested. Please use our Refund and Waiver form and note the following deadlines:

The fee will be refunded if the de-registration or enrollment revocation occurred before the beginning of the semester for which the fee has already been paid.

If your application for exemption or reimbursement is approved, you will receive the 79 euros you paid back.
You have to apply for the exemption or the refund of the paid AStA fee and the semester ticket at your AStA.
The processing of applications for exemption or reimbursement can take up to six weeks. We would like to ask you to refrain from written or telephone inquiries during this time. We will make every effort to process the applications as quickly as possible.
