Tiny Houses
In Steenbeker Weg on the grounds of the Edo-Osterloh-Haus dormitory in Kiel, the Studentenwerk SH has set up two Tiny Houses together with the Stadtmission Kiel. For this purpose, two 25-square-meter containers were converted and equipped with a bedroom, pantry-kitchen, living/working area, a separate shower bathroom and associated furniture. A terrace connects the two buildings.
The Tiny Houses provide a home for two women from different walks of life: a homeless client of the Stadtmission and a college freshman. Both have a hard time finding affordable housing in Kiel, and moving into the Tiny Houses serves as a stepping stone for both: for one, it's a first step out of homelessness; for the other, it's a first housing opportunity to find something long-term from here. In November 2021, the first two women moved into their new homes. After 1.5 years, a new tandem starts.
