Submit BAföG follow-up application now!
The Office for Educational Support of the Studentenwerk SH reminds all BAföG recipients to submit their follow-up application now. This is the only way to ensure that payments continue unchanged.
The BAföG approval period is usually twelve months, i.e. two semesters. Insofar as studies continue, students must then submit a follow-up application. Unfortunately, this is often neglected, reports Normen Laars, division manager for education funding at the Studentenwerk. "Only those who submit an essentially complete application for continued funding at least two calendar months before the end of the current, ongoing funding period will receive their money without interruption."
This means for all those whose funding start date was in the winter semester, they must submit their follow-up application no later than the end of June (universities of applied sciences) or the end of July (universities). "We recommend the online platform bafoeg-digital.de for this. This also works if the previous application was submitted on paper," said Normen Laars. The advantage of the online application is the shorter processing time. In addition, the platform offers help in filling out the application and checks whether it is correct and contains all the important supporting documents. "Evidence such as the certificate of study can also be submitted later, the main thing is that the follow-up application has been submitted first."
Important note: For a fully digital application using eID, students need an ID card with the online ID function switched on, their personal six-digit PIN, a suitable smartphone or card reader and the "AusweisApp2".
