Information for BAföG recipients

This year, the Federal Education and Training Assistance Act (BAföG) was reformed by the federal legislature. This BAföG Amendment Act regulates in particular an increase in the need rates as well as an increase in the allowances to be taken into account.

In order for the new regulations to be taken into account when granting and paying out BAföG benefits, the BAföG IT procedures of the Länder must be adapted accordingly. Unfortunately, in the course of this adjustment, technical problems have arisen for many Länder, including the Land Schleswig-Holstein, due to the update supplied by the software manufacturer. Several test versions were faulty. These problems have meant that the planned implementation of the new regulations with the payment of BAföG benefits for the month of September 2022 cannot yet take place. The implementation is now expected to take place with the payment of BAföG benefits for the month of October 2022. If the requirements are met, additional payments for the months of August and September 2022 will be made automatically and ex officio with this payment.
