Kiel University Reception: 101 Years of Student Services SH
On 8 November, the City of Kiel, together with the Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein, invited guests to the University Reception in Kiel's City Hall. The occasion for the joint organisation of the event was the 101st anniversary of the Studentenwerk. Accordingly, the birthday child was the focus of the event.
The guests were first welcomed by Lord Mayor Dr Ulf Kämpfer, who was particularly pleased that the event could finally take place in the presence of the city again. Afterwards, STW Chairman Prof. Dr. Malte Braack reviewed the early history of the Studentenwerk. DSW Secretary General Matthias Anbuhl gave his keynote speech "#WirfuerStudierende: An idea turns 101" and reminded the audience that the basic idea of the Studenten- und Studierendenwerke is to enable young people to study.
In the subsequent panel discussion with the Lord Mayor, our Managing Director and the State Secretary in the Ministry of Science SH, Guido Wendt; the President of Christian-Albrechts-Universität, Prof. Dr. Simone Fulda; and
Stella Thomsen and Max Härtel from the AStA Board of CAU, the main topic was student housing. The AStA board made it clear how precarious the situation is for students - especially for international students. Susann Schrader once again emphasised that the Studentenwerk SH needs suitable plots of land for new halls of residence in attractive locations and at favourable conditions. We would be ready to start building immediately.
Afterwards, the guests could look forward to a buffet under the motto "Homegrown Superfoods", which was developed, prepared and served by the trainees of the Studentenwerk with the support of the dining hall managers. The great commitment of our trainees met with a great response from the guests. The enthusiasm for the unusual and delicious bites was huge. The homemade chocolates, for which our young colleagues spent two days in the kitchen, were particularly popular.
