Mensa Heide tests new Zero Waste bag
From 4 October 2022, the Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein will be testing the Zero Waste bag in its cafeteria in Heide for eight weeks. This contains a compilation of leftover food from the cafeteria range at a reduced price.
Since May this year, guests of the Mensa Heide have already had the opportunity to purchase delicious, over-produced lunch dishes for a small price with the Zero Waste plate. To save even more food from being thrown away, there is now also the new Zero Waste bag. This is filled with three savoury or sweet treats from the cafeteria, including sandwiches, croissants, pretzels, donuts, muffins and cookies.
The bag is offered already pre-packed. So the contents are a surprise. The Zero Waste bag can be purchased 15 minutes after regular cafeteria opening hours inside the Mensa building for approximately 4.50 euros. The current opening hours can be found on the Studentenwerk website: https://studentenwerk.sh/de/mensen-in-heide.
"We want to make sure that flawless food is eaten instead of wasted," explains cafeteria manager Heiko Kolbe. "We hope that students will take up the offer and that we can introduce the bag not only in Heide, but also at other locations in the long term."
The Studentenwerk already avoids waste in the refectories, cafeterias and café lounges through numerous other measures. Among other things, reusable packaging is used as much as possible and meals are mainly prepared "just in time" and replenished as needed.
