BAföG myths
What do you think? How many students don't use their BAföG entitlement? Maybe seven or twelve per cent? No. It's a whopping 70 per cent. That's the result of a survey* of students.
The study also found out why BAföG is not applied for. The results show:
- 82 per cent underestimate their chances - many think their parents earn too much. However, they are often completely wrong about the income limits.
- Even those who know their entitlement often shy away - out of exaggerated fear of repayment.
So most people don't go without because they don't have a claim - but because they are misinformed. The result: many work more, forgo support, become stressed - and unnecessarily strain their parents' wallets.
